Cyberpunk 2077(opens in new tab) by CD Projekt is now in a more comfortable, and certainly more stable, state than it was in the beginning. The developer has worked tirelessly to smooth out troublesome elements of the game and add numerous quality-of-life features, which was probably the right thing to do, but it has left a large gap in content for a game that, lest we forget, was supposed to have multiplayer by now.

The modding community has embraced the game with zeal, and it is there that you will find the content that has begun to flesh out Night City in more interesting ways. One recent example is Scissors’ Drone Companions mod(opens in new tab), which adds a new type of operating system to the game called a Techdeck. Equipping this allows the player to craft drones, androids, and mechs, with a maximum of four at once.
Drones exist in Cyberpunk 2077, but you can only control them in one story mission, so this is a significant change with some depth. The TechDeck has up to three modular upgrade slots, and there are eight different models of varying quality (unlocked based on your technical ability stat), and you buy drone recipes from weapon vendors.
TechDecks allow you to create drones, after which you can use ‘TechHacks’ (similar to quickhacks) to apply temporary buffs and effects to them. Drones are also more likely to attack tagged targets.
