Now that Samsung has had its moment in the sun, the mobile industry is looking ahead to the next big thing. In order to balance the world of smartphones, Apple will unveil its own flagship wonders next month, though invitations to the press and public have yet to be sent. It will undoubtedly be an interesting show, with many changes expected for the next generation of iPhones — though not all of them will be positive, as people will probably have to say goodbye to a favorite (but low-selling) iPhone model. The changes in Apple’s lineup, however, may also imply a change in its pricing scheme, which we will finally know about within the next month.
Apple typically saves its biggest hardware debuts for its fall event, with the next-generation iPhone taking center stage in September. Of course, the next Apple Watch they will release series alongside it, and a new entry-level iPad may join it. However, Apple hosts a separate event for new Macs and iPad Pros, and the iPad 10 could debut there instead.
Bloomberg claims that the iPhone 14 series will be unveiled on September 9. Apple will most likely begin taking pre-orders at the same time, but the first batch will not be available until September 16. Despite reports of supply chain issues in the last two months, analysts predict that there will be no negative impact on schedules and supplies, so iPhone 14 buyers can be confident that their order will arrive on time.
The iPhone 14 lineup may ditch one model
The iPhone 14 will feature many changes this year, but most of them appear to be reserved for the Pro models. They also expected the base models to see a significant change, but not one that everyone will like — Apple may finally say goodbye to the 5.4-inch iPhone mini and instead introduce a non-Pro iPhone Max. While this would be a disaster for those who adore small iPhones, it would also help to merge Apple’s smartphone lineup and make it easier for buyers to understand what’s available.
According to reports, the next-generation iPhone lineup will include two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch models divided between the base and Pro lines. While there will be some improvements across the board, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will undoubtedly see the most changes. The most visible change will be a switch to a pill-shaped cutout, which would mean finally getting rid of the bucket notch that debuted with the iPhone X in 2017. New and improved cameras, as well as a faster processor, are expected to be included in the iPhone 14 Pro models.

These upgrades will not be free, and Apple may require buyers to bear some costs. According to an investor note shared by Philip Elmer-DeWitt, the Pro models will be $100 more expensive. The current iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1,099, so this would be a significant price increase. It also expected apple to increase storage in these iPhone models to make those figures more bearable, but it may still cause some interested buyers to pause when deciding which of the four iPhone 14 models to purchase.
