Logitech is expanding beyond PC accessories to develop a cloud gaming handheld device.

The product, which will be released later this year under the Logitech G brand, is being developed in collaboration with China’s Tencent Games.

I do not intend the Logitech G Gaming Handheld to run downloaded games. Instead, the system will stream the experience from major cloud gaming services such as Nvidia’s GeForce Now and Microsoft’s Xbox via an internet connection.

This is already possible with a laptop or smartphone, but Logitech appears to see an opportunity to sell a dedicated device aimed solely at cloud gaming—a growing but still niche market.

“The new device will support multiple cloud gaming services, and both companies are working with the Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now teams to ensure gamers can play AAA games when they are away from their console or PC,” Logitech said in a statement released on Tuesday (Opens in a new window).

The upcoming device will be created by combining Logitech’s hardware expertise with Tencent’s software. Tencent is perhaps best known in the United States for investing in and purchasing game studios, such as League of Legends developer Riot Games. However, the announcement specifically states that the Tencent Game division, which focuses on developing and publishing mobile games such as PUBG Mobile will develop the product.
