Motorola confirmed the dates for what will be the company’s most important launch event in 2022 less than two weeks ago. Motorola confirmed that the Motorola RAZR (2022) — its next-generation foldable smartphone — would be unveiled on August 2, 2022. Despite the fact that this event was limited to China, there was considerable global interest in it. This was due to the Motorola RAZR (2022) being the company’s return to the foldable space after a nearly two-year absence.

Given that Samsung had already announced the dates for its August 2022 “Unpacked” event, Motorola’s decision to announce the Motorola RAZR (2022) on August 2 made sense. For those who are unaware, Samsung’s upcoming event is expected to focus primarily on the company’s next generation of foldable smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Motorola appeared to want to steal some thunder from Samsung by being the first to launch a major foldable smartphone in 2022.
If everything had gone as planned, you would have been reading detailed specifications and features of the Motorola RAZR by now (2022). Instead, the Motorola launch event was abruptly canceled just hours before it was scheduled to take place. Chen Jin, a senior Lenovo executive who also oversees Motorola’s business in China, made the cancellation announcement.
Why did Motorola cancel the RAZR 2022 launch event?

Motorola’s Chinese social media channels have been promoting the upcoming launch of the Motorola RAZR (2022) for some time now, complete with teaser videos and images of the phone in action. However, with less than five hours until the 7:30 PM local time launch event, Chen Jin took to Weibo and announced that the Motorola launch event had been canceled.
Motorola’s official Weibo account confirmed the news and apologized to Chinese customers for the blunder. A translated version of Chen’s Weibo post does not specify why the event was canceled. What makes the situation even more perplexing is that the Weibo note makes no mention of a different date for the launch event. Given that Samsung’s Flip 4 and Fold 4 foldable lineup launch event is just over a week away, Motorola has very little time to beat Samsung to the finish line. With today’s cancellation, however, that possibility has all but vanished.

The Motorola RAZR (2022) is expected to have flagship-level specifications this time around. It is expected to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and to have a larger cover display than the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The rest of the features, on the other hand, remain a mystery.
