Netflix has come a long way in the last few years, from being a fan of users sharing passwords to plotting against the moochers. After months of testing and not-so-subtly warning users that a subscription should stay within the walls of a household, Netflix is finally rolling out a feature to kick off freeloaders without negatively impacting their profiles.
Say hello to Profile Transfer, a new feature that allows you to transfer your profile from one account to another. To put it another way, if the account owner is a kind soul, they may allow you to leave with all of your profile information intact and begin paying for your own subscription, rather than deleting the moocher’s profile or secretly changing the account password.
When the Profile Transfer protocol is enabled, all associated details such as viewing history, My List, saved games, and, most importantly, personalized content recommendations are transferred with the profile. The account owner can then create a new membership for the soon-to-be-dead user profile.
It’s time to get your own Netflix account

Follow these steps to convert a profile into a separate paying account:
To open a drop-down menu, click on the profile icon in the top right corner.
Select the new Transfer Profile option from the drop-down menu.
On the next page, Netflix will prompt you to enter a new email address that will be linked to the ejected profile, as well as the password for that new account.
Once those details are provided, proceed to the payment details page to complete the new account setup.
According to Netflix, the Profile Transfer feature will be available globally beginning today, and users will be notified via email when it is available. The feature is optional and can be disabled. The official press release takes a very benign approach to explaining how “your Netflix profile will be a constant in a life full of changes,” but in reality, the company has been dreaming of ways to address the password-sharing problem that was eroding its revenues.

The streaming behemoth has even tested a feature that allows users to convert a profile into a sub-account. The main advantage here is that the sub-account will pay a slightly lower subscription fee rather than the full subscription fee for a solo membership. If users log in to their accounts from different locations, Netflix will prompt them to confirm whether they are members of the same household.
