According to the AP, Russia has said that it would formally sever its international partnership with NASA for management of the International Space Station (ISS) as of 2024. The Russian space agency, Roscosmos, also declared ambitions to build and run its own orbiting station independently of the United States.
The ISS was supposed to be shut down sometime in 2024, however NASSA changed the ISS’s official retirement date to 2030. For four planned missions to rotate the crew of the International Space Station, Roscosmos and NASA have agreed to continue providing flights for American astronauts and Russian cosmonauts aboard each other’s respective launch vehicles, the Russian Soyuz and SpaceX’s Crew Dragon.

When Russia invaded Ukraine in February, tensions surrounding the long-standing U.S.-Russia cooperation on the ISS grew. Former Roscosmos head Dmitry Rogozin appeared to warn an end to cooperation in public speeches as one possible result of the U.S. condemning Russia’s unwarranted attack.
