South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group reported on Wednesday that it would launch an electric vehicle-only platform early next year that will use its own battery technology to minimize manufacturing time and costs. The strategy highlights the efforts of the world’s No.5 auto group to become a major player in the global EV market, as car manufacturers around the world are spending billions of dollars to boost battery technology, which holds EV prices high compared to combustion engine models. Market leader Tesla said in September that it aims to reduce the cost of its EV batteries by half and put more output of the main auto part in-house to lower EV prices to $25,000 each. Hyundai expects its dedicated Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) to allow it to use its own battery module technology across different EV models and to reduce the number of components by 60 per cent. “E-GMP will be very effective in expanding the leadership position of the EV Group as it will allow the company to expand its EV line-up over a relatively short period of time through modularization and standardization,” he said in a statement. An electric vehicle based on the E-GMP can give a driving range of 500 km (310 miles) or more on a single charge, an increase of at least 23 per cent from the Kona EV, the longest driving range in the Hyundai EV range. A limited edition, sportouring motorcycle based on the Diavel 1260 S is the Ducati Diavel 1260 Lamborghini. But unlike the usual Diavel, Lamborghini and Ducati have inherited the futuristic styling of the newest Lambo Sian FKP 37 hybrid supercar. “The Lamborghini Sian-inspired Ducati Diavel celebrates our shared values: we are both Italian, we are inherently sporty, and our design always distinguishes our creations,” said Andrea Ferraresi, Director of Ducati Centro Stile. Ducati’s newest Diavel 1260 S Lamborghini underwent a full body transformation to mimic the Sian. The radiator covers, the air intakes, the central tank cover, the silencer cover, the central tank cover and the seat cover are now made of light carbon fiber. In the meantime the front and rear mudguards, the dashboard cover and the headlight cover are all made of exposed carbon fiber. The new components suit well with the Verde Gea paint finish of the bike, the same color as the Sian hypercar of Lamborghini. Like the Sian, Diavel 1260 Lamborghini has a nice set of forged wheels – a direct copy of Sian’s magnificent rollers. The wheels are finished in Oro Electrum (Gold) paint, while the underlay and the bike frame are both sprayed in luxurious gold. “We are convinced that our design is strong and one of the most recognizable in the automotive sector,” said Mitja Borkert, Head of Design at Automobili Lamborghini. “The distinctive silhouette, clean but extremely distinct, represents the basis of our work design language. Lamborghini has a hexagonal motif and Y-shape knack, and in Ducati’s tribute bike you can find similar details. For eg, the exhaust tips are hexagonal, while the seat has Y-shaped decorations for completion of the look. Most notably, Diavel 1260 Lamborghini is released in a limited edition with the special number 63 livery. It resembles not only the founding year of Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese, but also, according to Lambo’s press release, the total production figures multiplied by 10. We are well aware of bad news when you have been struggling for the Sian, but Ducati is manufacturing 630 Diavel 1260 Lamborghini units to relieve pain.
