Although the Xbox Series X/S has a lot of hope for the future, there isn’t a ton of next-generation games to play on them right now. Although we’re waiting for those games to come, there’s no shortage of games to play on this new hardware, as they provide backward compatibility with Xbox One titles, a large selection of Xbox 360 games, and even some OG Xbox titles. You can also play PlayStation 2 games on the Xbox Series X/S, as it turns out but this support is certainly more unofficial. As Modern Vintage Gamer has shown on YouTube, the Xbox Series X/S is actually capable emulation machines on their own, and while you might think you need to hack your console to get the emulators going, you actually just need to pop it to developer mode. When in developer mode, the Xbox Series X/S supports the Universal Windows Platform software, which means that certain emulators can be run. For the purpose of this video, Modern Vintage Gamer used a sample of the integration of RetroArch with PCSX2. As MVG points out the development of PCSX2 within RetroArch is still in the early stages, so while it was able to get PlayStation 2 emulation up and running on the Xbox Series S, it doesn’t sound like it was a simple job. In fact, at one point MVG says that he was close to giving up on the project before further development took place . He continued his attempts to replicate PS2 games using Xbox Series S, however and it turns out that when things are working correctly, many PS2 games are running shockingly well. The video above shows a variety of favorite PS2 games running on the Xbox Series S, including God of War, Metal Gear Solid 2, Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus.
