Tesla announced today that Gigafactory Shanghai has produced its one-millionth electric vehicle, a significant milestone for Tesla’s new global export hub.

Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, announced last year that Gigafactory Shanghai had surpassed Fremont Factory in production capacity, and that the Chinese factory had become the company’s new main export hub.

Tesla’s Gigafactory Shanghai is a significant success story.

The factory began construction in December 2018 and will begin production in December 2019.

Tesla announced today that Gigafactory Shanghai has produced its one millionth electric vehicle, a significant milestone for Tesla’s new global export hub.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced last year that Gigafactory Shanghai is now operational.
Within just two years of starting production, it had become the world’s largest/most productive electric vehicle factory by a wide margin.

It finished 2021 with an annualized production rate of more than 800,000 vehicles and is still expanding.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, announced today that the Gigafactory Shanghai has produced its millionth electric vehicle:

As Musk previously stated, Tesla recently announced the production of its 3 millionth electric vehicle.

Tesla’s first factory, Fremont, announced just a few weeks ago that it had produced its 2 millionth electric vehicle.

The 1 millionth vehicle from Gigafactory Shanghai arrived quickly, but the 2 millionth vehicle will arrive even faster, as Tesla recently upgraded the plant to achieve a production rate of 1 million vehicles per year.

The rate of production is expected to be reached later this year.

Gigafactory Shanghai currently only manufactures the Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, but the factory is expected to expand to produce more vehicles next year.

By the end of the decade, the automaker hopes to have increased its production capacity to 20 million vehicles per year.

With the success of Gigafactory Shanghai, Tesla is likely to invest more in China to meet that goal. However, in the short term, Gigafactory Berlin and Gigafactory Texas are expected to increase the automaker’s production capacity.
