This is an epic story of extreme iPhone survival in Canadian news (CTV News). This week. An Angie Carriere dropped her iPhone 11 Pro to the fishing hole at Waskesui Lake in Saskatchewan. About a decade ago, even the world’s newest smartphones were a lost cause. More room for hope is available here in 2021.
For water and dust resistance, the iPhone 11 Pro is IP68-certified. IP68 certification means that iPhone 11 Pro survives at up to 2 meters below water surface for approximately until 30 minutes.
This doesn’t mean that the telephone immediately takes less than 2 meters or more than 30 minutes to water. It means that you are safe in these areas – because of the physical structures and materials included in the iPhone 11 Pro they are within safety limits.
The CTV News report suggests that in early 2021 the iPhone 11 Pro spent one month under the lake’s frozen surface. In this period it is completely possible to survive the device – and quite likely – due to the relative lack of ship transport and to the extreme stillness of the water.
You could potentially wreck your phone’s ability to work properly if your phone is down 3 meters and moved underwater quickly, even for just a few minutes. It is all about the ideal conditions during its underwater operation for the device.
The same occurred in Harrison Lake of the Valley of Fraser, British Columbia, Canada, earlier this month. According to a CBC report, in September 2020 an iPhone 11 was dropped. The phone owner dropped the telephone on the side of a buffer boat.
A diver whose task is to find trash and to remove it from the lake found the telephone six months later (!). The diver also found a flip phone (half snapped) and a few empty smartphone cases. The diver was also happy about it.
This is not the first time that iPhone 11 devices in the lake have been found on this diver. Two more iPhone 11 devices were found in Cultus Lake waters back in September 2020 (working!).
Four (or six?) additional telephones, one of which still worked, were provided on the same dive by another pair in August 2020. It was also an iPhone 11.
*We would, however, SEEM that the iPhone 11 line is very well known for keeping itself safe both at the water under a frozen surface AND in late autumn and early winter waters when we take all these findings as evidence.

However, that doesn’t mean again that it’s a clever idea to throw your IP68 (or any other smartphone) into the drink just to see whether it will survive. Just a moment to sneak in for a small water and doom! Your phone is done! Your phone is done!
