UPDATED: Twitter and Tweetdeck have suffered outages affecting users in various parts of the world.

Twitter’s official support account tweeted that it had been experiencing problems at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, U.K. time (10 p.m. Tuesday in Los Angeles). “You might have had trouble Tweeting, getting notifications, or viewing DMs,” it said. “We’re currently working on a fix, and should be back to normal soon.”

Shortly after noon in the U.K. (4 a.m. PT), the company said that the problems were “just about fixed.”

The outages reportedly hit users of the social networking site and the Twitter management dashboard TweetDeck in parts of Europe, the U.S. and Asia. An outage map from the downdetector website showed the U.K. and Western and Southern Europe particularly badly affected, as well as the West Coast of the U.S. and Japan.

The technical issue seemingly meant that some users were not able to see direct messages and experienced issues with posting images and video. Some users reported being redirected to the main Twitter service when trying to access TweetDeck.

Before acknowledging the latest problem, Twitter support had said there was a problem displaying new follower counts on the platform. Earlier this year, Twitter uses were unable to access the service for about an hour with an outage that hit both mobile and web platforms.
