The Game Awards are an annual gaming event held at the end of each year to honor the year’s best new releases. I will hold the show on December 8, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. While Geoff Keighley hosts The Game Awards, and the advisory board includes industry luminaries such as Lisa Su and Hideo Kojima, among others, the nominations process involves over 100 media outlets.
Winners are determined by a combined vote of public fan votes and the same jury of media outlets that submit nominees. The Game Awards claim that this nomination and voting process keeps voting neutral and platform-agnostic and that the advisory board has no influence over the votes because many of the members are actively involved in the development of titles that will inevitably make it into the event. The public vote to complete the nominees began on November 28, 2022, with the second round beginning on December 1. Valve’s Steam is involved in the show, and the gaming giant has certainly brought the goods — goods worth $97,350.
The Steam Deck is a handheld gaming console released by Valve in February 2022. It has a bright 7-inch 1280×800 IPS touchscreen and a custom AMD APU with enough horsepower to get you a stable 60 fps in most games at that resolution. The Steam Deck can also be docked to a monitor to function as a full Linux-based desktop PC, and it includes all the controls needed to play virtually any game on Steam.

Valve will give away one 512 GB Steam Deck — worth $649 — every minute during the live broadcast of The Game Awards, which is expected to last around 150 minutes. 150 Steam Decks is nothing to scoff at, but there are some rules and restrictions, as there always are. The giveaway is only open to residents of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union. To be eligible for the Steam Deck giveaway, you must have made a purchase on Steam between November 14, 2021 and November 14, 2022. To enter the giveaway, you must watch the live show via the Steam Store page or on SteamTV when it airs.
