Nintendo is providing up a new couple of SNES and NES games for Nintendo Switch Online, when you’ve been paying attention to the last few samples, then you should know what the live show is this time around. Nintendo rounds out the Donkey Kong SNES trilogy with this impending game slate, adding Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble to the Switch Online vintage games lineup.

The original Donkey Kong Country was all included in the July Switch Online update, while Donkey Kong Country 2 was introduced with the September update, so most Switch Online users expected Donkey Kong Country 3 to be next. Donkey Kong Country 3 places players in the roles of Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong as they attempt to track down the lost Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong. Gameplay, as you would imagine, is close to the first two episodes, but that’s clearly not a bad thing.
Donkey Kong Country 3 is not the only game to be included to Switch Online’s retro lineup with this update. SNES will be joined by The Ignition Factor, Super Valis IV, and Tuff E Nuff. The NES library sees the addition of a single game: Nightshade.

So there’s no doubt – Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble is certainly the main draw of this update. Originally, Nintendo revamped Switch Online’s retro game library every month, but when the SNES games were added to the lineup, the company followed a more sporadic schedule. As a reminder, these games are only available as a bonus to Switch Online customers, who are running $20 a year and are expected to play Switch Online games.
With this update, 95 games will be available throughout the SNES and NES libraries. The update doesn’t drop until December 18th, so if you’re excited to dive into Donkey Kong Country 3 and finish the trilogy, you’ve got a couple of days left to wait.
