The truth is, we can all relate to stress in diverse ways because there are just a lot of things to do within such a short time! School, work, family, religious life, and the list continues.

Often than not, when we are experiencing stress, we think of sleeping it off or getting a great massage or going on a vacation, etc. These are all great ways to get some relief from stress. However, dancing can also help reduce your stress level.

Dancing as defined by Britannica is “the movement of the body in a rhythmic way, usually to music and within a space, to express an idea or emotion, releasing energy, or simply taking delight in the movement itself.”

Here are some ways dancing relieves you of stress.

•Dancing serves as a good distraction;

Once some good music gets in your head and gets you to move according to its rhythm, you completely get locked out of the outside world. This helps you to distance yourself from life’s issues and recharge your brain and get rid of some stress hormones. Try this with songs you fancy rather than those you don’t, as it is much easier to be distracted by a song you like than the one you don’t enjoy.

•Dancing helps to flush out body toxins;

Believe it or not, stress is a psychological reaction that happens in your body. It goes a long way to affect your mood and relationship with others, as well as affects your decision-making process sometimes, especially if not controlled or dealt with appropriately. I said cortisol is a primary stress hormone. So, we must balance it at all times but several activities of the day may cause negative stimulation of this hormone. Dancing helps flush out these and other unwanted chemicals responsible for your stress by increasing your pleasure hormones like endorphins and serotonin.

•Dancing relieves you of stress by stretching out your joints and muscles;

Piled-up stress can cause you to experience extreme tiredness and muscle and joint pains. These slow down your activeness as an individual. Hence, by engaging your body in a rhythmic movement (dancing), you get to stretch out your arms, legs, etc. All the consistent movements of these body parts cause your muscles to relax as well as your joints, causing a renewed energy level.
