We all desire to stay healthy and live longer. While we may not realize it, our diets affect our bodies so much. Therefore, what we eat on a daily, matters. Eating the right amount of calories is key to a healthy diet. We ought to eat only the amount of calories our bodies can burn. Meaning, if you eat or drink more than your body needs, you are likely to put on weight and vice versa.

Below are some healthy eating habits that ensure you are receiving all the nutrients your body needs.

•Include More Fish in Your Diet.

Fishes are not just easier to digest but are also a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals that the body needs for growth. It is advisable to consume at least three portions of fish, with at least one portion being oily fish such as herring, sardines, salmon, tuna, and mackerel. Keep in mind that, smoked fish is not entirely the best as it can be high in salt.

•The Consumer Goods High in Fibre and Starchy Carbohydrates.

Because our bodies need the right amount of energy, it’s best to base your meals on foods rich in fiber. At least a third of what you eat should be made up of starchy carbohydrates.
Examples include; brown rice, potatoes, and whole-wheat bread.

•Eat Less Free Sugar and Salt as They Affect Our Overall Health and Blood Pressure.

Consuming a high amount of sugar may increase weight gain and expose you to other health conditions such as tooth decay and diabetes. Salt consumption should also be controlled because too much of it can raise your blood pressure. Foods high in free sugar include cakes, pastries and pudding, sweetened milk/drinks, and biscuits.

•Eat a good amount of Fruits and vegetables.

Most often than not, because we are more concerned about feeding our hunger, we forget to eat some fruits and vegetables. At least five portions of different fruits and vegetables are recommended for daily consumption. You can include them in your main meals if you find difficulty in eating them in their raw states. You can eat them dried or frozen or blended. Just include some good amount of them in your daily meals.

•Stay Hydrated Always.

Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink water or fluids. The moment you feel thirsty; it means your body is dehydrated. It really should not get to that point. The government recommends it to drink at least six to eight glasses every day. These do not include alcoholic and fizzy drinks because they are unhealthy. Rather consume lower-fat milk, tea, coffee, water, and lower-sugar drinks.

•Keep Fit and Do Not Skip Breakfast.

You may have heard people say “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, and that is absolutely true. Before you kick start your day, make sure you eat a good amount of healthy breakfast for energy and overall health. Exercising is not only necessary when you’re trying to lose weight, burn fats in certain areas, or gain some ‘booty’. It’s important to keep fit at all times and this does not require vigorous exercises. Stretching, jogging, a few push-ups, skipping a rope, etc. are all great ways to keep fit.
